Our Mission

Mongolia is a large central-Asian country bordered by Russia to the north, China to the south, and Kazakhstan to the west.  Covering an area of 600,000 square miles it is five times the size of the British Isles.  Yet with a population of just 2.5 million, 40% of whom live in the capital Ulaan Baatar, it is very sparsely populated.  There are very few hospitals, and only a single A&E department in the entire country.  Outside of Ulaan Baatar medical care is only available in a few regional centres.

One particularly remote region is the western-most province of Bayan Olgii which lies within the Altai mountain range and experiences climatic extremes in the harsh Mongolian winter and baking summer.  Bayan Olgii is about twice the size of Wales and has a population of 100,000.  The capital of the province is the town of Olgii where one third of the region's inhabitants live.  The remainder of the population are settled in remote villages, with a few nomadic tribes also in the area.  Organised medical care is only available in this region within the town of Olgii, and with little to no road system linking the more remote villages, tens of thousands go without even basic care.  Ultimately many lives are lost here to easily-treated conditions.

Our aim is to deliver our Land Rover ambulance, fully equiped, to the medical centre in Olgii where it can be used as a mobile clinic.  Capable of negotiating even the roughest of terrain, our vehicle will enable medical teams to regularly visit the many disconnected villages in the region delivering routine medical care such as vaccinations, as well as treating those that have fallen sick or been injured.  This vehicle will literally save lives for many years to come, and help prevent children in the area needlessly dying from conditions such as diarrhoea and pneumonia.  Please help us if you can.  You can find out what equipment we need on the Stuff We Need page. If you can put us in touch with anyone that might be able to help provide some of this equipment we would greatly appreciate it.  If you think you can help us with any of our preparations we'd also love to hear from you.  And of course, you can also donate to our vehicle fund if you'd prefer to help out in that way.
